MS/ M. Phil in Chemistry

Chemistry is the science of the structure, properties, and reactions of matter. It is both a basic science, fundamental to an understanding of the world we live in, and a practical science with an enormous number and variety of important applications. Knowledge of chemistry is fundamental to an understanding of biology and biochemistry and of certain aspects of geology, astronomy, physics, and engineering. Chemistry has a direct effect on the evolution and development of human kind, and provides essential support to the world of health, quality of life, the environment and safety. The Courses offered in MS Chemistry are designed according to the scheme of studies approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan so as to meet the national and international standards.

The aim of the Master of Philosophy/MS program is to provide research training in a manner that nurtures the development of independent research skills in students. On completion of their degree, the student should possess the ability to solve problems, having command on appropriate conceptual and methodological frameworks, and the capacity for articulate and critical analysis. In addition, they will have the opportunity to participate in the activities of different university societies, attend departmental seminars and programs.

Objectives of Program

The objective of the program is to produce skilled postgraduates who can act in the increasingly wide research area of chemical industry or professional school and provide a broad foundation in chemistry that stresses scientific reasoning and analytical problem solving through scientific experimentation and data analysis.

For effective exploitation of the experience, skills, technical know-how of the teaching staff and to impart training to the students, the following fields of specialization have been developed: Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical and Applied Chemistry. Promotion of higher education and postgraduate research had been the main objective of the department, with this consideration the department is offering research project.
